Another Russell's viper has been found in the same village of Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira within two days. Villagers beat it, burnt it to death and buried it.

The snake was found in Chanduria village, on the Indian border, in the upazila's Chandanpur union.

On Friday (28 June), village youth Isharul said he had seen a Russell's viper beside his pigeon house on Thursday. He then beat the snake to death with a stick, burnt it and buried it in the ground.

Tanmay Acharya, wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer at the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division in Khulna, told Jagonews24 that it is initially thought to be a Russell's viper and that the matter will be looked into.

Earlier, a Russell's viper was found on the bank of a pond in the same village, and it was also killed.

Locals said that besides Chanduria, several Russell's vipers have been found on more than one occasion in recent months in Barali, Hijaldi and Bhabanipur, next to Chandanpur, in the upazila. Every one of these villages lies along the Indian border.
