Mango harvesting has been opened in Satkhira in line with the timetable set by the district administration. On the first day, Gopalbhog, Bombai, Gopalkhas, Boishakhi and local varieties reached the market.

District Agriculture Officer Saiful Islam, an agriculturist, opened the harvest at 1pm on Thursday, 9 May, at the orchard of mango grower Mokchhed Morol in Kukhrali in the upazila.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmad presided. Additional Deputy Director Iqbal Ahmed, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain and Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Yasir Arafat were among those present.

Satkhira's mangoes are prized around the world. To ensure quality mangoes are supplied, the district administration has fixed set times for picking, and has drawn up a harvesting and marketing calendar by variety.

But bringing the calendar forward by a week, the picking dates have been set at 9 May for Gopalbhog, Bombai, Gopalkhas, Boishakhi and local varieties; 11 May for Gobindabhog; 21 May for Himsagar; 29 May for Langra; and 10 June for Amrapali.
