The administration in Satkhira has destroyed 9,000 kg of immature mangoes ripened with chemical spray.

The mangoes were destroyed in public at the town's PTI ground on Thursday afternoon (2 May), led by district administration executive magistrate SM Akash.

Earlier, at dawn on Thursday, police seized the mango-laden truck in a drive on the town's bypass road.

SM Akash told Jago News that Sadar police station carried out the drive on a tip-off and detained a truck carrying 9 tonnes of ripened Gobinda Bhog mangoes in 370 plastic crates, with a market value of Tk 15 lakh. The seized immature, artificially ripened mangoes were destroyed in public.
