A python has been rescued from a settlement in Satkania, Chattogram, and later released into the forest by the Forest Department.

The snake was released into the deep forest of the Madarsha forest range on the morning of Tuesday 29 November. Members of a snake rescue team had rescued it on Monday afternoon from the Latapir Bazar area of Kanchana union in Satkania.

Snake rescue team member Wahidul Islam said: "Whenever we get news of wildlife needing rescue, we rush to the spot. On Monday afternoon we got such news, rescued the python that people had caught in the Latapir Bazar area and informed the Forest Department. The snake was then released into the forest together with Forest Department officials."

Madarsha range officer Md Mamun Mia said the python was about 9 feet long and weighed about 9 kg. It had come into the settlement in search of food and was caught there. With the help of an alert young man it was rescued and released into the forest in the Madarsha area on Tuesday morning.
