A scare over venomous snakes has broken out at Sakhipur police station in Shariatpur. One snake was killed, but another got into the station compound, and the officer in charge (OC) has called in a snake charmer to catch it.

Masudur Rahman, officer in charge of Sakhipur police station, called the snake charmer at midday on Monday, 25 March.

Police and workers at the station said several construction workers were digging with an excavator on Sunday, 24 March, for a new station building when two venomous snakes came out of the ground. The workers killed one, but the other escaped into the station compound. The OC then called a snake charmer to catch it, but the snake had not been caught so far.

OC Masudur Rahman said the site chosen for the new Sakhipur police station building was once full of bushes. While work was going on there, two snakes came out and one entered the station compound, after which a snake charmer was called to catch it.
