The forest department has rescued a young Russell's viper (chandrabora) from the bank of the Gorai river in Kushtia. It was rescued from the Mangalbaria embankment on the edge of the town on Saturday afternoon (11 February).
According to inquiries, a police assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Md Asrafuzzaman, informed the forest department and the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation Federation (BBCF). In the afternoon, members of the Kushtia forest department and BBCF reached the spot and took the young snake away.
Divisional forest officer GM Mohammad Kabir told Jago News the young Russell's viper was rescued from the Gorai riverbank after the department was alerted through 999.
Shahabuddin Milon, president of BBCF Kushtia district and of Manush Manusher Jonno Kushtia, said the young snake was released in a safe place that night.
