Abdul Khaleque has built a successful rooftop farm at his home in Merul Badda in the capital. For toxin-free fruit and crops, he has gradually mastered the right use of modern technology and organic methods, which others can now follow.
From farm family to city roof
The son of a farming family, Abdul Khaleque settled permanently in the city to earn his living. In 2014, as soon as construction of his six-storey building was finished, he took up farming. He has gradually decorated the 1,800-square-foot roof with his own dreams and creativity.
Toxin-free produce
Fully toxin-free, pure fruit and crops from the roof are Abdul Khaleque's greatest reward. To get them he has learned every technique of modern and organic farming, starting with protecting the soil.
He now holds strong arguments in favour of rooftop farming, and he says television has played a big part in that.
