A python rescued from the Tabalchhari area of Rangamati has been released into the national park at Kaptai. Forest Department range officer Khandaker Mahmudul Haque Murad released the 11-foot snake on the morning of Wednesday, 15 November.
Forest Department sources said a team led by the Sadar range officer, Abdul Hamid, rescued the python from Tabalchhari in Rangamati Sadar upazila on Tuesday. It was then handed over to the Kaptai range and released into the park.
Khandaker Mahmudul Haque Murad, the Forest Department's Kaptai range officer, said many pythons are now coming into populated areas because of a shortage of food. "The snake was rescued from Rangamati town and handed over to us. We released it into the national park to make sure it has a safe habitat. The 11-foot snake weighs 9 kg," he said.
