The Forest Department has rescued an 18-foot python in Barkal, Rangamati. The python was rescued from the Erabunia area of the upazila on the morning of Thursday (October 23).

Confirming the matter, Abdus Salam, a member of Bhushanchhara union parishad, said such a large python had never been seen in the area. The python had eaten a goat.

Anwar Hossain, assistant ranger of the Barkal range of the Rangamati Forest Department, said that after being alerted by local people, they rescued the snake and kept it under observation at the Barkal range. It was released in the Barkal Reserve Forest that evening. He said the snake was somewhat injured from being dragged around, and is staying still where it was released. "We are keeping the snake under observation," he said.
