Leaders of the Ziaur Rahman Hall union at Rajshahi University (RU) have delivered mangoes to the hall's resident students. On Wednesday 20 May, mangoes were picked from trees in the hall area and shared equally among all the students.

Ziaur Rahman Hall VP Mozammel Haque said there are many mango trees beside the hall, but for various reasons most students miss out on eating their fruit. "So on behalf of the Zia Hall union we decided that as soon as the mangoes were ready to eat, we would pick them and share them among all the students. We have been able to do that," he said. He added that this was not a formality but a small initiative born of a sense of moral responsibility and mutual goodwill.

Fahim Hasan, a resident student of the hall, said that in the past people picked and ate the hall's mangoes as they pleased. "But the initiative the hall union leaders have taken this time is certainly praiseworthy. More than being able to eat mangoes, I liked the effort to deliver them," he said.

Hall provost Dr Md Mahbubar Rahman said it was certainly a praiseworthy job. "If the university had not closed, we could have delivered the mangoes to the students a little riper. We looked after the mangoes very well and managed to deliver them to every student."

Earlier, on the initiative of the Bijoy 24 and Motihar hall union leaders, litchis were distributed equally among all resident students of those halls.
