Rajshahi University's Science Club has begun a week-long tree-planting programme. The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Golam Sabbir Sattar, inaugurated it on Tuesday morning (14 September).

The programme, presided over by the Science Club's president, Md Istehar Ali, was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr Sultan-Ul-Islam and Professor Chowdhury M Zakaria, student adviser Professor Tareq Noor, acting proctor Professor Liaquat Ali, and Professor Dr Ekramul Hamid, director of the engineering faculty.

Also present were Professor Tariqul Hasan of the chemistry department, adviser to the Science Club; Dr Tanzima Yeasmin, chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; and members of the club's standing committee, and moderators and members of its executive committee.

About 400 ornamental trees were planted in front of the Dr MA Wazed Miah Academic Building on campus, and more than 520 fruit, herbal and medicinal trees beside the killing field memorial.

The Science Club's general secretary, Abid Hasan, said the programme will run until 16 September.
