The mango-picking festival began in Rajshahi on the first day of Jaishtha, the month of honey. From the morning of 15 May, growers began picking Guti mangoes under the schedule set by the district administration, bringing the season's first mangoes to market.
Local growers were pleased to be able to pick mangoes under the set "mango calendar". They said favourable weather had brought a good crop this year, and farmers would be happy if they now got a fair price in the market.
Harvest dates by variety
The district administration said different varieties would come to market in stages this season. Under the schedule, Gopalbhog can be picked from 22 May, Lakshmanbhog (Lakhna) and Rani Pasand from 25 May, Himsagar or Khirsapat from 30 May, Langra from 10 June, and Amrapali and Fazli from 15 June.
Ashwina and BARI-4 will be picked from 5 July, Gourmoti from 15 July and Ilamoti from 20 August. The administration said Katimon and BARI-11 could be picked all year round.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Rajshahi, the district's mango production target for fiscal 2025-26 is 2,43,995 metric tonnes, with an estimated market value of about Tk 780.68 crore.
Because of the administration's monitoring, consumers are again expected to get chemical-free, mature mangoes this year.
