The Rajshahi district administration has published this season's 'mango calendar' to stop immature mangoes being sold. It has warned of strict legal action against anyone who picks mangoes from trees or markets them before the set time.

The calendar was formally published at a meeting on the transport, harvesting and marketing of mangoes in the deputy commissioner's conference room on the afternoon of Sunday (10 May).

Under the calendar, all kinds of guti mangoes can be picked from 15 May, Gopalbhog from 22 May, Ranipasand and Lakshmanbhog from 25 May, Himsagar or Khirsapat from 30 May, Banana mango and Langra from 10 June, Amrapali and Fazli from 15 June, BARI Aam-4 from 5 July, Ashwina from 10 July and Gourmati from 15 July. Katimon and BARI Aam-11 mangoes can be harvested and marketed all year round.

Rajshahi deputy commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam told the meeting that the calendar had been set in coordination with mango growers, traders and agriculture officials. The administration will take a firm stand to ensure that no one brings immature mangoes to market before the set time.

Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and the Fruit Research Centre, mango growers, traders and courier service representatives attended the meeting.
