A woman named Subita Rani Das, 60, has died of a snakebite in Rajbari. She died while under treatment at Rajbari Sadar Hospital on the evening of Tuesday (25 June).

Subita was the wife of Dhirendranath Das of Dhubaria village in Madapur union of Kalukhali upazila.

Her grandson, Antor Kumar Das, said she was washing dishes at the family's tubewell at around 5.30pm when a cobra suddenly bit her on the right hand. Family members tied a band around her hand straight away and brought her to the emergency department of Rajbari Sadar Hospital at 6.20pm.

He said that soon after she arrived, the doctors untied the band to examine her condition without giving her antivenom. She died about 50 minutes later, at 7.10pm. He said his grandmother died because of the doctor's negligence.

Abdullah Al Mamun, a senior staff nurse at Rajbari Sadar Hospital, said that after the patient arrived, the hospital's medical consultant Shamim Ahsan examined her and kept her under observation. She died while under observation.
