Mangoes from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Satkhira will this year reach Dhaka residents directly from the farmers. The scheme, being launched by young Qawmi entrepreneurs, uses the postal department's network and its transport and service structure. Through it, about 4,000 kg of mangoes will be delivered to customers in Dhaka every day.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, inaugurated the programme on Thursday at Dak Bhaban in Agargaon.

"We are taking the Bangladesh Postal Department through reform. Part of this reform is getting supply chains moving. We are trying to see how small and medium entrepreneurs can benefit by using the postal department's existing infrastructure," he said.

The programme is led by Qawmi entrepreneurs, who began their business lives through a platform created for young people educated in Qawmi madrasas.

Their community now has more than 80,000 young Qawmi entrepreneurs, who are building careers in freelancing, online business, e-commerce, agriculture and production.

The entrepreneurs hope the project will not be just a seasonal activity but will become established as a sustainable model for marketing farm produce, one that could in future be followed for other fruits, farm products and regional produce.

Under the scheme, about 4,000 kg of mangoes are planned to be carried to Dhaka every day, and entrepreneurs and farmers are getting transport at low cost.
