Modern Greenhouses and Shade-Net Houses for Flowers in Qatar's Desert

Qatar, a land of scorching desert, is being adorned with flowers. With the 2022 football World Cup ahead, large agro-industrial companies have taken charge of redesigning Qatar's landscape, keeping pace with the world's best practices.

Roads, the fronts of large buildings and parts of the desert now beckon with extraordinary natural beauty, and fresh flowers survive even in the fierce sun. In places, vertical gardens climb walls. The major task of adorning the whole country has gone to the Al Sulaiteen Agricultural and Industrial Complex, one of Qatar's largest agro-industrial companies.

In Umm Salal Ali, beneath a huge nursery shade on 3.5 hectares, is a heavenly scene of millions of blooming flowers, mostly potted. The world's best agricultural companies are developing desert-suited flower varieties for them. The company's main visionary says their plans for natural beauty are big, alongside achieving some self-sufficiency in food security.
