The forest department has rescued a python from a village next to the Sundarbans and released it into the forest.

The snake was rescued and released on Thursday (12 June) morning, Surajit Chowdhury, officer of the Dhangmari station of the Chandpai range (Mongla) of the East Sundarbans division, confirmed.

He said that at around 6am a huge python got into the chicken coop at the home of Taru Mandal in Dhangmari village, next to Dhangmari forest station, and was eating the chickens. The household informed the forest department, and forest guards went to the scene and rescued the snake. It was released into the forest at around 10am.

The python was 10 feet long and weighed 8 to 9 kg, forest official Surajit Chowdhury said.
