A python about 10 feet long was found coiled around a rack in the kitchen of a house in Sitakunda, Chattogram. When members of the household saw it and cried out, local people gathered. Members of a local voluntary organisation called Jubo Samaj then came and rescued the snake, put it in a sack and released it deep in the hills.

The python was caught on Friday (15 November) in the kitchen of Khalilur Rahman in the East Sonar Para area of Kumira union. A hillock lies half a kilometre from his house, and local people believe the python came into the village from there in search of food.

Local resident Ilias Hossain said people crowded round to see the python on Friday morning, but no one dared to catch it. Residents then called members of Jubo Samaj. A 10-member team led by the organisation's president, Md Saiful Islam, went to the house and pulled the python down. It was then put in a sack and released deep in the hills near the house.

Local people estimate the python to be around 10 feet long. It most likely came into the village some time on Thursday night and stayed coiled around the rack in Khalilur Rahman's kitchen.
