Rooftop farming is passing from generation to generation. Children are caring even more for rooftop farms their parents built, and what was once a hobby has become a necessity of city life.

Mohammad Naeem's 2,400-square-foot rooftop farm in Pirerbag, Dhaka, began with his mother. Since 2017 he has carried forward her hobby farm as an essential farming venture.

Now dream farming has flourished on the roof, with fruit and crops everywhere and something new added every day. Winter beans grow on trellises, with yield and taste even better than in the field.

The farm follows fully organic practice, with fruits and crops from home and abroad. Naeem's father, Yunus Khan, finds special peace in all this. It is a source of pride for relatives too; family member Nurul Islam finds parallels between this rooftop farm and his own experience of yard farming abroad.
