The forest department has rescued two injured deer that strayed into villages in Patharghata, Barguna. After first aid and care, both were released into the Sundarbans.

The deer were rescued on 11 May, one in the morning from the Gabbaria area of Charduani union and the other at midday from the Kaliarkhal area of the same union.

According to the forest department and local sources, forest staff went to Gabbaria after hearing that a deer had come out of the Sundarbans. With the help of residents, they rescued it alive from the edge of a pond. Wounds were seen on several parts of its body, and forest staff gave it first aid and food.

Around midday, residents spotted another deer at Kaliarkhal. Forest staff went there and rescued the second deer as well. After treatment, both were released into the local forest.

Surajit Chowdhury, officer in charge of the Gyanpara special patrol camp of the Sundarbans East Forest Division, told Jagonews: "Two deer that came from the Sundarbans into villages have been rescued. After first aid, they were released into the Sundarbans on the instructions of the divisional forest officer. Our investigation into why the deer came into the villages and how they were wounded is continuing."
