The Coast Guard has seized seven deer skins and 10 kg of deer meat from the bank of Haringhata canal in Patharghata, Barguna.

They were seized at around 11pm on 14 November in the Charlathimara area of the upazila.

Lt Fahim Shahriar, commander of the Coast Guard South Zone's Patharghata station, said the raid was carried out on a tip-off that smugglers involved in deer poaching in the Sundarbans were about to enter the coastal area with a large consignment. At around 11pm, seven deer skins and 10 kg of meat were seized from the bank of Haringhata canal. However, no one could be arrested.

He added that the recovered deer meat and skins have been handed over to the Patharghata forest department.
