Members of the Coast Guard South Zone have seized three deer skins from a school bag in Patharghata, Barguna.

Lt HM Harunur Rashid, commander of the Coast Guard South station at Patharghata, confirmed the seizure on the morning of 14 June.

According to the Coast Guard, the three skins were recovered on Monday night from a school bag lying abandoned in South Gyan Para of Charduani union in the upazila. The smugglers sensed the Coast Guard's presence and fled, so no one could be arrested.

Lt Harunur Rashid told Jagonews that, acting on a tip-off that deer skins and meat were being smuggled in Charduani union of Patharghata upazila, two Coast Guard teams from the South Zone raided the Gyan Para area of Charduani at night and recovered three deer skins from an abandoned school bag.

No one could be detained, he said. The skins have been handed over to the Patharghata Forest Department office.
