Farmers hit by germination problems with incentive onion seed this season have been supplied with seed brought in urgently from abroad.

The Ministry of Agriculture said this in a press release on Monday.

It said about 16,000 farmers had been affected by germination problems with the incentive onion seed this season: 5,200 in Faridpur, 527 in Madaripur, 3,725 in Rajbari, 420 in Gopalganj and 6,000 in Pabna.

In the four affected districts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj, a total of 9,872 farmers have been given new seed, sourced from abroad, to replace the spoiled seed.

In addition, in the other affected district, Pabna, 6,000 affected farmers have been given new seed sourced locally to replace the spoiled seed.
