The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued a set of instructions to all secondary schools in the country for carrying out the "One Child, One Tree" programme. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is to inaugurate the programme on Monday, 29 June.

The DSHE announced this in a letter on Saturday, 27 June, sent to the heads of all educational institutions in the country.

The letter says various initiatives have been taken to deliver the "One Child, One Tree" programme, one of the pledges in the government's election manifesto. As part of this, the Learning Acceleration in Secondary Education (LEASE) project, run under the DSHE, has given Tk 5,000 as a climate grant to every government and MPO-listed secondary institution.

With this money each institution has been told to plant one fruit tree, one timber tree and one medicinal tree, make banners and festoons, and hold a seminar or rally. The letter adds that the prime minister has agreed to inaugurate the programme at 10:05am on 29 June.

• One fruit tree, one timber tree and one medicinal tree will be planted at every educational institution.
• Local public representatives, teachers, students, guardians and dignitaries of the area will attend and take part directly in the tree planting at each institution.
• The event will be broadcast live on various government and private media, and participants at selected institutions will be able to join the prime minister by video conference.
• Institutions will make the necessary preparations to hold the event well.
• Institutions must put up climate-related banners, festoons and similar materials on campus on the day.
• Each institution must organise a rally on campus with teachers and students to mark the tree-planting programme.
