A 13-year-old student, Monnaf Shah Rahman Manik, has died after being bitten by a snake in his sleep in Nilphamari.

The incident happened on the morning of Friday, 4 September, in the Bogila Gari area of Panchapukur union in Sadar upazila.

Monnaf, son of Moshiur Rahman of the area, was a class seven student at Nilphamari Cadet Academy.

Relatives said Monnaf went to sleep in his room after dinner on Thursday night, 3 September. On Friday morning family members heard a noise from his room. When he did not open the door despite their calls, they broke it down and found him writhing on the bed with froth coming from his mouth. He was rushed to Nilphamari General Hospital, where he died, relatives said.

Panchapukur union parishad chairman Wahedul Islam Sarkar confirmed the death. He said the boy had been sleeping alone and nobody in the family noticed when he fell ill. He was taken to hospital in the morning, but died on the way to Rangpur, the chairman said.
