Young Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat has become a talking point on social media after buying a goat for Tk 15 lakh for Qurbani. Facebook posts and some media outlets claimed that Ifat lives in Dhanmondi and is the son of Dr Md Matiur Rahman, president of the National Board of Revenue's (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.

However, NBR sources said Dr Md Matiur Rahman has no son of that name, and he does not live in Dhanmondi. His son's name is Ahmed Toufiqur Rahman Arnab and his daughter's is Farhana Rahman.

Matiur Rahman told the media: "I have no son named Ifat. He is not even a relative or acquaintance. My only son's name is Toufiqur Rahman. A group is spreading propaganda against me. I am taking legal action and seeking the help of the police's Cyber Crime Investigation division. I am embarrassed that my photo and name have been used on social media. I will definitely take legal action."

The viral posts said that "the young man from Dhanmondi" had bought four cows as well as the Tk 15 lakh goat, and that Ifat was making a Qurbani worth half a crore taka. He bought the animals from the much-discussed Sadiq Agro, the posts said.

But Mohammad Imran Hossain, owner of Sadiq Agro farm, told the media that the young man had only booked the goat with Tk 1 lakh and in the end did not pay the full amount or take the goat home from the farm. He also said the young man's father is not a revenue official but lives abroad.

The young man had reportedly posted photos of himself with various Sadiq Agro animals on Facebook before, including in 2021 and 2022.

The owner of Sadiq Agro told the media that the goat whose price has caused so much speculation belongs to the world's largest breed of goat, called Beetal, and is the biggest goat ever in Bangladesh.

The greyish-brown goat weighs 175 kg and stands 62 inches tall. Sadiq Agro bought it about two months ago from a market in Jashore for Tk 10 lakh 35 thousand.

Meanwhile, after his posts went viral, Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat locked his Facebook and Instagram profiles. As a result, no details could be found about the identity of the young man, who regularly posted photos with luxury cars such as a Land Cruiser, a Honda Civic and a Crown Majesta.
