The Bangladesh Navy is running a tree-planting programme as part of the nationwide National Tree Planting Campaign 2023.

Navy chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal inaugurated the programme on 5 June by planting a sapling in front of the Submarine Fleet Headquarters at the BNS Sheikh Hasina base in Pekua, Cox's Bazar.

Special prayers were then offered for the programme's success. The regional commander of the Chattogram naval area, senior military and civilian officers, staff and sailors were present. The programme was inaugurated at the same time at all naval bases, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Mongla and Kaptai.

After the inauguration, the navy chief urged naval personnel to come forward to properly carry out the programmes taken by the government. He also stressed planting more trees in coastal areas to tackle natural disasters and keep the environment in balance.

As part of the programme, the Bangladesh Navy will plant fruit, timber and herbal saplings at naval bases, coastal installations and other areas over the month.
