Mango and litchi picking in Natore will begin on 15 May, starting with Guti mangoes. Other mangoes will be picked in stages after that.
The timetable was set at a meeting in the deputy commissioner's conference room at around 11am on 8 May, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ms Asma Shaheen.
Dates by variety
Guti mangoes can be picked from 15 May, Gopalbhog from 25 May, Ranipachhanda, Khirsapat and Himsagar from 30 May, Lakhna from 2 June, Langra from 6 June, Nagfazli from 10 June, Harbhanga from 20 June, and Amrapali, Mallika and Fazli from 30 June.
BARI Aam-4 can be picked from 15 July, Ashwina from 20 July and Gourmati from 25 August.
Mozaffar litchis can be picked from 15 May, and Bombai and China-3 litchis from 25 May.
Anyone who needs to pick mangoes earlier can do so with permission from their upazila nirbahi officer.
The deputy commissioner warned that legal action would be taken against anyone who picks immature mangoes before the set time without permission or uses chemicals to store them.
Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan, deputy director (horticulture) of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), and orchard owners attended the meeting.
This season Natore has set a target of 72,086 tonnes of mangoes from 5,694 hectares of orchards and 6,508 tonnes of litchis from 887 hectares.
