Local people have rescued an eagle of an endangered species from the Boro Harishpur bus terminal area in Natore.

The bird was handed over to the authorities of the "bird sanctuary" at Uttara Gonobhaban at noon on Saturday 18 November.

Locals complained that after the eagle was found beside the bus terminal on the morning of Friday 17 November, transport workers called 999, but nobody came to rescue it.

Transport worker Moyen Uddin said the eagle fell from a tree beside the terminal on Friday morning and, injured, could not fly. Several workers then cared for it, and by Saturday morning the bird had recovered somewhat. Though they called 999 for a rescue, there was no response. At noon they told a local journalist, who took the bird away.

Journalist Nasim Uddin Nasim said: "When locals told me about the rescue of the endangered Himalayan eagle, I went to the spot at noon today. I then had the bird seen by a local vet and handed it over to the bird sanctuary at Uttara Gonobhaban in Natore. I hope it will recover quickly with proper treatment."
