The three-day National Fruit Fair begins on Thursday (19 June). Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, the fair will be held on the premises of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) at Khamarbari in the capital. The information came from the ministry on Tuesday.
Held under the theme "Eat more native fruits, come let us plant fruit trees", this year's fair will end on Saturday (21 June).
The ministry said 26 government and 49 private organisations are taking part. Various fruits and fruit-growing technologies will be displayed at a total of 75 stalls.
Opening and seminar
Agriculture Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will open the fair on the KIB premises at 10am on Thursday. A seminar titled "Native fruits in health, nutrition and commercialisation: current context, challenges and prospects" will follow in the KIB auditorium.
The agriculture adviser will be chief guest at the seminar, chaired by Agriculture Secretary Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian. On the closing day, Saturday afternoon, the best stall will be given an award at the fair ground.
The fair will be open every day from 10am to 8pm. Visitors will be able to learn about fruit-growing technologies and buy various chemical-free fruits.
