A five-day fair of mangoes and mango products has begun in Naogaon. The fair opened on the afternoon of Monday (19 June) at Nowjoan field in Naogaon town and will run until 23 June.

Deputy Commissioner Md Khalid Mehedi Hasan opened the fair as chief guest by releasing balloons and festoons.

A discussion meeting followed, chaired by Md Abul Kalam Azad, deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Naogaon.

Thirty stalls of mangoes and mango products are taking part. The stalls are decorated with various mangoes, including Banana Mango, Amrapali, Lakhna, Gourmati and BARI varieties. The fair opens at 10am every day and runs until evening.

Iftekharul Islam, owner of Rion Agro, has come to the fair from Niamatpur upazila in the district. He said he took part to promote safe, poison-free mangoes and to spread the idea of how safe mangoes are grown. Many people also do not know mango varieties, and the fair will help them get to know them, he said.

DAE Naogaon Deputy Director Md Abul Kalam Azad said the fair was organised to market and display mangoes. It is expected to build a brand for Naogaon's mangoes, whose reputation has already spread to various districts, he said.
