The social organisation Graduate Friends Association has distributed fruit tree saplings among school students in Badalgachhi, Naogaon.

The programme was inaugurated at Balubhara RB High School in the upazila on the afternoon of Saturday, 6 August. Saplings of the Nagfazli mango were given to 1,300 students of three secondary and two lower secondary schools in Balubhara union.

The chief guest, former senior secretary Sourondre Nath Chakraborty, then planted a mango sapling on the Balubhara RB High School grounds. He said a country needs 25 per cent forest cover to maintain the natural balance, but Bangladesh has fewer trees than it needs, and the climate is changing adversely as a result. He urged everyone to come forward to plant trees and thanked the members of Graduate Friends Association.

Social worker Mahmuda Khatun Mukta and Md Faruk Hossain, senior manager of Alif Group, were special guests.

The programme was chaired by the organisation's president, assistant professor Nasim Alam, and conducted by general secretary and lecturer Nazrul Islam. Also present were bank officials Mohidul Islam, Amirul Islam Hitler and Enamul Haque; education officer Md Abdul Jalil; Tentulia BMC College lecturer Abdus Sobhan and demonstrator Mahabub Or Rashid; Mithapur College lecturer Firoz Hossain; teachers Bakul Hossain, Bayezid Hossain and Nazibor Hossain; social worker Mojidul Islam; pharmaceutical trader Atoar Hossain Pappu; and NGO official Saiful Islam.
