Miscreants have cut down 120 banana trees belonging to a farmer named Abu Taleb in Naldanga upazila of Natore. The incident took place on Saturday night in the south field of Kuturipara in the upazila.

The farmer is reported to have suffered a loss of Tk 70,000-80,000. The affected farmer, Abu Taleb Sardar, is the son of the late Abu Taher Sardar of the village.

Abu Taleb Sardar said: "After finishing my studies I could not get a job, so I planted 120 banana trees on 10 decimals of land I inherited in the Kuturipara field. Every tree had borne big bananas. If I had sold them in the market I would have got Tk 70,000-80,000. But on Saturday night miscreants cut down 80 of the banana trees in the orchard. They cut the bananas from the remaining 40 trees and left them lying on the ground."

He added: "I have no enmity with anyone. I don't know who did this. They have ended the dream I had for so long." Saying this, Abu Taleb broke down in tears.

Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naldanga police station, said: "We have not yet received a written complaint about the incident at the station. If we receive a complaint, we will investigate and bring the culprits to justice."
