Floods have damaged nearly 4,000 mud and semi-pucca houses in Moulvibazar, leaving residents in severe hardship.

Affected people said upstream runoff and heavy rain flooded 28 unions in Kamalganj, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Sadar upazilas of the district, and many mud and semi-pucca houses collapsed in the water.

According to the district relief and rehabilitation office on Wednesday, 15 July, 3,932 mud and semi-pucca houses were damaged in Kamalganj, Rajnagar, Kulaura and Moulvibazar Sadar upazilas. Of these, 2,493 were completely damaged and 1,439 partly damaged.

Rasel Mia of Rajnagar upazila said: "One side of my house collapsed in the flood. I don't have money even to eat properly. How will I repair the house?"

District relief and rehabilitation officer Mohammad Chhadu Mia said corrugated iron sheets, rice, cash and dry food had been distributed among flood victims.
