The Forest Department has rescued a deer that came into Mongla, next to the Sundarbans, after being injured in a tiger attack. It was given first aid and released back into the forest.

The deer came to the house of Dulal Howlader in the Boiddomari area on Thursday (June 10) morning. Local people then informed the Forest Department.

A team from the Chandpai range of the East Sundarbans forest division reached the spot, rescued the deer and took it to the Forest Department office.

Sundarbans Chandpai Range Officer Enamul Haque said: "The rescued deer had bite marks on its neck. So it is thought that the deer came into the village after being attacked by a tiger."

He added: "On the advice of Azad Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre, the deer was given first aid. Two hours later it was released into the Sundarbans."
