The Coast Guard has detained a young man named Touhid Sardar, 30, with 55 sundhi turtles, a rare species, in Mongla.

He was detained in a raid on Digraj Bazar in Mongla on the night of 8 December. Touhid Sardar is the son of Joban Sardar of Dumuria upazila in Khulna.

Lt Md Hasanuzzaman, media officer of the Coast Guard West Zone, said the Coast Guard raided the area on a tip-off. The man was then handed over to the Khulna Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division for legal action.
