Imam Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has asked people to plant fruit trees in towns and villages as memorials to the martyrs killed in the ongoing war. He said the tree-planting programme would stand as a symbol of Iranians' hope, development and national resilience.

He said that amid the ongoing US and Israeli aggression, the planting programme would be a symbol of the country's reconstruction and a bright future. Ayatollah Khamenei added that fruit-bearing trees should be planted in towns and villages particularly from the month of Farvardin until the end of spring.

He said the initiative would honour the martyrs through memorials, especially those of the "third imposed war". Iran's current Imam expressed hope that the trees would grow strong and fruitful and become a symbol of the lasting life of the country and its people.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched a large military operation against Iran, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, leader of the Islamic Revolution, along with several senior military officers and civilians. The joint forces' strikes have caused extensive damage and casualties at military and civilian sites in Iran. In response, Iran's armed forces are carrying out missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli positions.

So far, 1,340 deaths have been reported in Iran from the Israeli-US joint strikes, while 1,280 deaths have been reported in Lebanon from Israeli attacks.
