Some mangoes are beyond the reach of ordinary people. Unlike Himsagar, Langra or Fazli, they are not found by dropping into a market, and on the world market their price is sky-high: at least Tk 3 lakh for a kilogram. Through one small mistake, such prized fruit has been stolen from the orchard of a mango farmer in Odisha.

According to Indian media reports, Laxminarayan, a mango farmer of Naya Nuapara district in Odisha, has a large mango orchard near his home. This season he grew 38 kinds of mango, among them the Miyazaki, priced at Rs 2.5 lakh a kilogram (about Tk 3.29 lakh). Many call it the world's most expensive mango.

Naturally the farmer was proud of having grown so many varieties through hard work. But sharing that joy with others proved his undoing.

Laxminarayan recently posted a number of photos of his orchard on social media, among them pictures of the Rs 2.5 lakh-a-kilogram mangoes.

When he got up the next morning, he realised thieves had entered the orchard during the night. Four of the precious mangoes had been stolen. At first the farmer could not believe it, but there was nothing he could do.

Social media users advised that when mangoes are worth their weight in gold, their security should match; otherwise it would be no surprise if mangoes were robbed in future.
