Ten young spectacled cobras (padma gokhra) have been rescued from a house in Mirsharai, Chattogram. They were recovered on the afternoon of Friday (31 October) from Dulal's house at the Abdul Hakim Molla bari in Middle Azamnagar, Hinguli union.

A spectacled cobra was also rescued from a house in the Shukrubar Yarhat area of Dhum union. The finding of the venomous cobra and its young has caused panic among locals.

Tarek Aziz, a member of the snake rescue team, said family members at Dulal's house saw the young snakes. "On getting the news we rescued 10 young spectacled cobras from one room and brought them away. They are currently in my custody," he said.

Aziz said that on the evening of the same day a spectacled cobra about 11 feet long was rescued from a rat hole at a homestead in the Shukrubar Yarhat area. The snakes were to be released in the hills on the morning of Saturday (1 November), he said.

Zakir Hossain, the forest beat officer for Hinguli union in Mirsharai, said no one had informed him about the rescue of the young cobras from the house. "I am looking into it," he said.
