A venomous snake has been found on the fourth floor of the Mirsharai upazila parishad complex in Chattogram. It was killed in the belief that it was a Russell's viper.

The incident took place at around 9pm on Monday (24 June), causing fear among all the officials and employees in the building.

Staff were putting up curtains on the doors and windows of the fisheries officer's office on the fourth floor of the complex when they saw a venomous snake on the verandah. Thinking it was a Russell's viper, they killed it at once.

Mirsharai Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Nasim Al Mahmud said: "While putting up curtains in my office, the staff saw a snake that looked like a Russell's viper and killed it. It does not seem to be a Russell's viper, though. But the worrying thing is how the snake got up to the fourth floor. There is no jungle or rooftop garden."
