A snake has been killed inside a house in Mirsarai, Chattogram, in the belief that it was a Russell's viper. It happened at around 2am on Wednesday (26 June) at Mostafa Villa in the Noyduaria Purba Masjidia area of Khoiyachhara union in the upazila.

The owner of the house, Salah Uddin Opu, said they saw a snake in one of the rooms at around 2am on Wednesday. It looked a lot like a Russell's viper, so it was killed. Later, after seeing photos, many people said it was not a Russell's viper but a ghorginni.

Mirsarai upazila livestock officer Dr Zakirul Farid said no Russell's viper has yet been identified in Mirsarai upazila. In many places other snakes are being killed in the belief that they are this snake, which is not right at all, he said. He asked people to inform the local forest department if they see a snake.
