A python has been found in a residential area of Mirsarai, Chattogram. The snake was spotted in the yard of a house in Durgapur village of the upazila at around 8pm on Sunday (30 June). Forest Department officials came on being informed, rescued it and later released it in the forest of Mahamaya Eco Park.

It was learnt that the snake got caught in wire netting in the yard of a house in the East Durgapur area. Local people saw it and informed the Forest Department's Mirsarai Range, whose staff rescued the snake at around 9pm.

Shahan Shah Nawshad, ranger of the Forest Department's Mirsarai Range, said: "We rushed to the spot on getting the news and rescued the snake unharmed. Later, on the instructions of the Chattogram North Forest Division officer, the non-venomous python was released that night in the forest of Mahamaya Eco Park."

He urged people not to kill any snake they see but to inform the Forest Department.
