Seen from above, this house stands out from the rest. Large trees rise from the top of the seven-storey building, their green shade hiding much of the brick and concrete. Retired navy officer Ziaul Ahsan has spent the past 14 years creating it.
Learned from a newspaper column
Remarkably, the entrepreneur learned many growing techniques three decades ago by reading Shykh Seraj's regular newspaper column on farming methods, "Krishi Koushol".
Three tiers, 300 plants
The three-tier arrangement covers 2,000 square feet and holds more than 300 plants, meeting almost all the family's vegetable needs.
A distinctive feature is wide beds filled with soil, where various vegetables and bananas are grown. Organic fertiliser is used to keep the soil fertile.
Rustom Ali assists full time with growing and care, and Ziaul Ahsan explained further how the crops are looked after.
