Rooftop farmer Dr M A Odud Sarkar says his love of greenery comes from patriotism. Because he holds the national flag close to his heart, he wants to spread its red and green colours through farming, and rooftop farming has become a dream journey for him.

A well-known dentist living in Mirpur, Dhaka, he planned his rooftop farm this way. Wherever there are plants on his 2,800-square-foot roof, they are rich in fruit and crops. What he gets from it, he says, cannot be measured in money.

Among other fruit and crops, a fruiting coconut palm stands tall on the roof. He speaks of the media's major role in spreading urban agriculture.

He names getting correct, quality seedlings as one of the main challenges of rooftop farming, and says government policy support is needed in every area to spread urban farming.
