Picking and marketing of Bombai and local mango varieties in Meherpur will begin on 15 May, and Himsagar picking will start on 22 May. Langra is to be picked and marketed from 7 June, Mallika from 10 June, Amrapali from 17 June and Fazli from 23 June.

The dates were set at a meeting on safe mango marketing held in the Sadar upazila conference room on the afternoon of 8 May. Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Sifat Mehnaz attended.

She said instructions were being given not to pick or market mangoes before the set dates, to keep quality intact. The picking and marketing dates were fixed locally on everyone's advice, and legal action will be taken against anyone who breaks them.

Shamsul Alam, deputy director of the district Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), said orchard owners, traders and people from various walks of life were present when the dates were set.
