The orientation programme for students newly admitted to MBBS for the 2025-26 academic session will be held on 3 May. Before it begins, every student admitted to a medical college will plant a tree, meaning more than 11,000 trees will be planted before they sit in their first class. They will do so under the "One student, one tree" programme.

The information was given in a notice signed by Professor Dr Saki Md Zakiul Alam, director (medical education) of the Directorate General of Health Education.

According to the notice, the orientation programme will be held simultaneously at government and private medical colleges across the country at 9am on 3 May. Health minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain Bakul will join virtually to inaugurate it.

The notice says 112 medical colleges will join the central online orientation, in which more than 11,000 students admitted in the new session will take part. After the central event, each college will complete its own orientation.

On the same day, under the "One student, one tree" programme, each student will plant a sapling, completing the planting of more than 11,000 trees across the country.

According to the Directorate General of Health Education, more than 122,000 students applied for the medical admission test for the 2025-26 session. Of them, 5,100 were admitted to 37 government medical colleges and 6,278 to 75 private medical colleges.
