Action will be taken if a sacrificial animal market is set up on any playground, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said.

The mayor said this while speaking to journalists at midday on Wednesday (6 July) after inspecting the DSCC's ongoing eviction drive to widen Umesh Dutta Road.

"We have not allowed cattle markets on playgrounds. We have also reduced the number of markets this time; only 10 markets have been given permission. If lessees break any condition at the markets, our executive magistrates will certainly take action against them," he said.

On designated places for slaughtering sacrificial animals, he said slaughter had been arranged at three specific places only for the judges' quarters and officers' quarters. No ward-based designated slaughter spots are being arranged, but animal waste must be delivered to the transfer station through the designated waste collectors by 12 noon.

Noting that preparations were under way for the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah, the mayor said the main Eid jamaat would be held there at 8am.

Earlier, Sheikh Taposh inaugurated the 56th secondary transfer station (STS) at East Nandipara and the 'Nayri' restaurant at Sector 7 of Dhanmondi Lake.

Present were Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP for Dhaka-9, DSCC chief executive officer Farid Ahammad, chief engineer Saleh Ahmmed and secretary Akramuzzaman, among others.
