Another live Russell's viper has been rescued from the Harukandi area in the Padma river char lands of Harirampur upazila, Manikganj.

At dawn on Tuesday 30 June, the snake was caught in a fishing net. Instead of killing it, a fisherman named Sujon brought it safely to the local ferry ghat. On being informed, the upazila forest officer took steps to hand the snake over to the Forest Department.

According to local sources, Sujon, a fisherman from the Andharmanik area of the upazila, set his net in the Padma on Monday night. When he went to pull it up at dawn on Tuesday, he found a live Russell's viper. Rather than killing it, he kept it safely inside a net and brought it to the Andharmanik ferry ghat.

"I caught the snake without killing it. I kept it in case it can be used for research in the country," said Sujon.

As the news spread quickly, curious people crowded the ferry ghat. Locals then informed the upazila administration.

Harirampur upazila forest officer Md Shariful Islam said the snake was brought in with the help of Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh. As it was rescued alive, the process of handing it over to the Forest Department is under way, and further steps will be taken under the supervision of experts.
