The Mango Special Train will run with mangoes from Chapainawabganj in the last week of May. Sujit Kumar Biswas, chief commercial manager (CCM) of the West Zone railway, gave the information after a meeting on the morning of 11 May.

Mango growers, traders and journalists had earlier demanded that the Mango Special Train start on 20 May.

Sujit Kumar Biswas said announcements would be made by loudspeaker and leaflets distributed in Chapainawabganj's markets before the train starts. Last year it cost Tk 1.31 a kg to send mangoes by the Mango Special Train, and he hopes that will stay the same this time.

Chapainawabganj station master Md Obaidullah and railway officials of various levels attended the meeting.

Once running, the train will leave Rohanpur station in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj and stop at Amnura Junction, Chapainawabganj station, Kankanhat, Rajshahi, Sardah Road, Arani, Abdulpur, Bangabandhu Setu West, Joydebpur and Dhaka Airport. Besides mangoes, it can also carry vegetables and other fruit.

The Mango Special Train from Chapainawabganj to the capital via Rajshahi was launched on 5 June 2020. Running until 21 July that year, it carried 167,082 kg of mangoes and earned revenue of Tk 211,458. It was launched for the second time on 27 May 2021, carrying 236,973 kg of mangoes that year and earning Tk 1,344,920. Last year the train carried 148,255 kg of mangoes and earned Tk 175,634.
