As soon as the heat sets in, Bengalis wait for ripe mangoes to reach the market. It is hard to find anyone who does not love eating mangoes, and the fruit, full of flavour and nutrition, is very good for health.
Mangoes contain nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K, fibre, potassium, magnesium, folate and beta-carotene. Eating mangoes regularly in summer boosts immunity and brightens the skin.
Despite all these qualities, some foods can cause problems if eaten with mango or right after it. Here are the foods not to eat after mango.
1. Yoghurt
In summer many people eat sour yoghurt and ripe mango together. This is harmful for your stomach and can lead to stomach pain, vomiting and bloating, so do not eat the two together.
2. Rice
Many people sit down to lunch with mango on the plate. Rice comes with spicy curry, and eating mango after that upsets digestion. Mango should never be eaten with spicy food.
3. Bitter gourd
Bitter gourd is one of the most popular summer vegetables and is very healthy. But mango and bitter gourd should not be eaten together, nor should bitter gourd be eaten after mango, as it can cause vomiting.
4. Soft drinks
Never drink a soft drink right after eating mango. Any fizzy drink can cause indigestion and even gastric problems.
5. Water
Water should not be drunk right after eating any fruit, not just mango. It has an adverse effect on the digestive system and can cause diarrhoea. Drink water half an hour after eating fruit.
